Jackson active pre-amps with BK pickups
« on: September 19, 2011, 09:27:27 PM »
Hi all,

New member with a "which pickup" thread.

I play Melodic Death Metal.

I play Jackson USA neck thru guitars (2 RR's and 1 Soloist - all 80's). Naturally they all sound completely different from each other. The soloist has a JE-1200 mid boost pre-amp with the old J80C pickups. It sounded aggressive and fantastic when I played thrash in Eb on it. I now play in B std and it is more muddy but still better than the RR's. Both the RR's are passive I have tried all sort of different pickups and never found one that I like in B std tuning.

I play through a Marshall JMP-1/9200 Rack amp set up or a JCM2000-TSL100 depending on what mood I am in.

So my question is:
Reading here I see a consensus that the Aftermath is a good choice for B tuning. But how well does it respond to a JE-1200 active mid booster?

Anyone tried that combo?

Would that work in both the Soloist and the RR? If so I will be adding JE-1200 boosters to both my RR's as well.

No-one has tried an active pre-amp on one of these pickups in low tuning?
