Routing?
« on: September 27, 2011, 05:08:43 PM »
Hi!

I just bought myself an Ibanez RGA-7, as my first 7-string. As I assumed, the Ibanez(IBZ LZ-7)-pickups sounds really shite. What I'm wondering is; Does Bare Knuckles fit right in, or do I need to do some additional routing? And do I need to change the pots for different values, since these humbuckers are active?

Hi,

Have you done a search? I would have guessed that there should be at least one forum member with a 7-string Ibanez and BKPs.

If you are not sure, dismantle your pickups from the guitar and measure the pickup dimensions and the rout dimensions in the guitar. With that information the BKP folks should be able to help you further.

As regards the pots, yes, you most likely will have to change them. The traditional value is 500kA for humbuckers and 250kA for single coils but that is not a hard and fast rule - it's just what will work. The higher the values the brighter the tone.

Cheers Stephan

BKP dimensions are here: http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/dimensions.php

I think you may have to rout a little for the pickups feet
