Your favourite ever boost
« on: October 18, 2011, 11:37:10 AM »
We all like making loud things louder and we all like messing around with pedals. So, what has been your favourite booster pedal(s) and why?

For me, my old HBE Big D (sniff) just sang for leads, the bigger option was awesome and made your guitar sound like a synth with an octave pedal.

The Blackstar HT DISTX gets a mention for me too. Using it to drive my JCM800, it sounded massive for metal rhythm. It's killer on bass too!

Does a DOD 250 count as a boost?  I had one of those, but sold it to gwEm without ever having used it.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I use a Toadworks Dual Boost for big clean stuff. You can mix fat and clean-boost to your taste. Great to fatten up tele's and strat's.
Further: Emma Reezafratzitz and 1981 TS9.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

i've used a couple of overdrives, a Marshall Guv'Nor and a Thundertomate Overdrive+ mainly, both with very good results.  the only actual booster i've spent time with is the Thundertomate Phil Hilborne fat treble booster, and it is a fabulous pedal, with the right amp.  masses of great sounding boost, and can push a barely ticking over amp into screaming distortion!  i recently tried a Carl Martin Hydra Boost through a late sixties Marshall head, and it sounded awful.  i've just bought a Keeley Time Machine boost, but it's just arrived and i haven't tried it yet.

so the simple answer :)  my favourite boost, so far, is the Thundertomate Fat TB.

as of now, an amptweaker tight boost. lots of gain on tap and the option of dialling in a c--ked wah sound for solos. the tight knob is awesome as well.

I like the Digitech Bad Monkey for the classic tubescreamer boost a lot.

But mostly I use my T-Rex Michael Angelo Batio overdrive, because it only adds gain and doesn't cut the low end or color the sound too much. Many overdrives I feel either cut the bass too much or add their own midrange color to the sound.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

And me, albeit my clone, which is on all the time.  Even when I'm sleeping, it sounds that good.
