NGD - just not playable yet - UPDATED with pics AND CLIPS
« on: October 20, 2011, 07:07:43 PM »
I've been in the market for a good decent strat for some time now, but could never really justify spending a lot of money on one so I have tried some cheapos which got my hooked on the strat tone, but didn't really cut it playable and tone wise. Hopefully my strat-thirst will now be quenched as I have just picked up a new second hand strat.

It's a chambered alder body from Warmoth which have a gold finish and relicing. The neck is from Allparts - maple with a rosewood board, nitro finish and it has been refretted not so long ago. I really dig the looks of the guitar and it has a certain mojo going on with the reliced look and the matching cigarette burn at the headstock.

I'm really tempted to get a set of Milks for this guitar, but can't really afford it right now so I'll throw in a Stormy bridge with middle and neck Apaches. Hopefully that combo will deliver the goods.

If anyone has good suggestions concerning what pots and caps I should use as well as color of the pickguard and knobs I'm all ears  :D

As a recent gold convert, that's gonna look great!

Standard 250k audio taper CPS pots should see you right, and maybe mint green plastic?

I think Twinfan meant CTS pots...but yeah, them. WD Music do a Strat rewiring kit that has all you need.

I think a tortoise shell pickguard would suit the guitar, maybe with black knobs and pickup covers perhaps?

Wow man, that looks just great. I would love to have a HSS-strat in this color.

A very promising looking guitar. Pickguard-wise Warmoth have some nice colours. Personally on that I'd go for Brown Shell or Anaconda with cream or parchment covers and knobs.

I'm sure it will look very cool!

I think a 1 ply white pickguard with white or cream pickups/knobs would be good to keep the gold on focus!

Actually, Mr Q is right, I change my suggestion from tortoiseshell to mother of toilet seat. Good call.

Yep, I'm not a big fan of pearloid, but I have to say I think Philly might be right on this. Fernando's suggestion seems pretty good too, for keeping the gold in focus. Probably my first instinctive thought would be like like Twinfan - mint green - I'd like it, but I'm not so sure it would actually bring out the best look this one could manage.

Looking forward to see how it turns out... even though you seem to be about to commit the blasphemous "heresy" of putting a humbucker in a strat!!

Nice one :D

If I had a single coil bridge it would go in for sure. I think I'll throw in a mini switch so I can split the Stormy.

Thanks for all your advice guys. I'll have to see what I decide on, but I'm mostly leaning towards white or aged white pickguard and knobs. The guitar had a white guard when I tried it out and I think that suited it quite well (It also had two humbuckers - don't pass into chock, AndyR )

Any suggestion when it comes to strap buttons?

Nicely done! Strat GAS.

Looking forward to some pics when it is all sorted.
I think I hate being indecisive.
