Marshall Cab Quick Question
« on: October 31, 2011, 10:52:27 AM »
Hey guys

I am going to buy a new Marshall Cab to go with my Marshall YJM100 Plexi (albeit broken at the moment lol)

I am looking at gettin the 1960AX with the greenbacks it also has a nice retro speaker grill:

http://www.andertons.co.uk/speaker-cabinets/pid9255/cid690/marshall-1960ax-4x12-angled-speaker-cab-w-celestion-greenbacks.asp

Now my question is what would you all prefer, the 70's speaker grill or a 60's basketweave? Marshall can customise the speaker with basketweave.

Torn between the two colour options lol!

i agree, they both look good.  just pick the one you prefer.  whichever you pick, you will, at some point, think you should have gone for the other one, but they both look great and both compliment the YJM nicely.

my YJM is sitting on an Orange cab, so your Marshall is going to look more "right" whichever you pick ;)

I live on the Isle of Man though and no one will ship their Marshall Cab to the Island.

There are very few that come up here unfortunately.

I agree they are both awsome aren't they. Leaning towards a basket weave one!

Check out Zilla Cabs. You can get a custom made one for a tad bit cheaper, and they're awesome. All you need to do is explain exactly what your looking for, and they'll make it right down to the casing colour and the grillcloth.

Same. It's like a handbuild Mesa Rectifier, but with much more loving care gone into the construction. Sounds a lot better than one too tbh.

Thanks guys I have looked at Zilla Cabs they look quite good.

The only thing is it would have to say Marshall on it lol, nothing looks as cool as a Marshall Cab!

Can they make one as a copy?

You can buy replacement 'Marshall' logos from quite a few places. Its just a matter of asking for the grill cloth to be blank, and fitting one yourself. They wouldn't be able to do it as it would be copyright for them. But it is very easy to do it yourself :)

Whilst both look cool, if the YJM is a Plexi front panel I'd go for 60's basket weave or maybe even a pin stripe, if the amps is a Aluminium panel front I'd go for the chequerboard grille cloth. Funnily enough I have just replaced a disintegrated grille cloth on my mates old late 60's/ early 70's Marsahll 4 x 10. I left the rest original... I also re-tolexed his MK50 li9ke mine in Marshall vintage white levant.... my own amp is on top. But that cab is so cool, nearly as old as me too!

I couldn't put it better than this!

I have a 1960ax & a zilla cab I had Paul finish with a salt & pepper cloth. My plexi clone looks fantastic on both.

Incidentally, I'll be selling the 1960ax in a week or so. I'm hoping to get around £330 for it. I'm in Ireland though so shipping will be steep.

By the way, d1dsj, great job on the tolex. I've seen your amp on here before & thought it looked fantastic. Didn't you have a matching cab too?

Apologies for going off-topic Risingforce.

The amp looks great. Would love to get a vintage cab as well and replace the grill.

Big problem on the isle of man as when people will ship it is such a hassle and costs about £100.

If i was in the UK I would have a cracking stack (ooer) lol!

Will keep you guys updated on it! I know what you mean re the front of the amp its gold so would go well with the basketweave.

I just need to receive my replacement now! Which will be another 2 weeks at least!!

Why don't you come across to the mainland and get one & drive it back?
