BC Rich Gunslinger - new pup
« on: January 26, 2006, 03:27:43 PM »
Hi all,
I've got a BC Rich Gunslinger with a Seymore Duncan Trembucker. While I like the sound of the guitar I'm looking for something with more harmonics and open (but still distorted) sound. I've already got a nailbomb in my Fender Strat (which I love) but I'd like to try one of the other pups bareknuckle do so I'm looking for suggestions.

Sound wise I like the 1984 era and later Van Halen guitar sound, I have a Line 6 Spider II (1 x 12) and usually use either the Crunch or Metal settings with slight delay. I'm wondering if the VHII would fit the bill ?

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Cheers wwwales

Hi!

I have a set of VHII's in a mahogany Les Paul (with maple cap). I used to own a Line 6 Spider II, and I have recorded some sound samples with it. One is here:

As it says, thats on the crunch setting (thats the plexi one, isnt it?)

I also recorded some other samples, I think some may have been the metal setting, but I boosted them a bit too much, they might be a little gain heavy! Well, anyway, just sift through the player's section to find the clips and download them!

Hope some of that helps you! For what it's worth, the VHII is a great pickup, very clear, harmonic and open. Love it!

The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away...

The VHII is great for 1984 type tones, some of the later tones too. It's open but it depends on how hot you like your pickups??

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. Willo - cool clip, I enjoyed that! Not sure how hot I like my pickups - I guess I'm after something that I can get good harmonics out of all over the place but that will probably depend more on my technique and the guitar as well as the pickup. I don't like the bottom end chugga chugga that a lot of metal nowadays as I like a good balanced sound to the guitar, but I also want to be able to get the guitar to scream.

How does the VHII compare with the pickup in the EVH Charvel or Peavey Wolfgang Specials?

thanks again,
