Alternatives Mesa Mark Vs?
« on: November 04, 2011, 11:10:03 AM »
Well I've got my main metal rig together now! So just ordered  my C-Bomb/Cold Sweat for my Prog Metal playing, and I'm in the search of an amp to suit this type of playing. As good as my 6505 is, it just doesn't offer the versatility of what I actually need. I really like the Mesa Mark V, but it's just way too much of an investment (I want to be able to afford a deposit on a custom guitar). I'm looking for something 6L6, something which has great cleans, a great crunch channel, and especially a great Lead Channel for them Dream Theater style riffs and solos. I'd love it to scream tone!

Any ideas anyone?

Used Triple Rectifier?

Yh, that was an option, for £1k, it's a pretty good deal. I'm just also wanting to see if there's any other options first.

How does the Rectifier actually cope for Prog Metal & Solo Instrumental styles?

How's the Axe FX compared to Valve-amps?

I saw that. But it isn't out yet. I emailed Bugera about a week ago. But I'm wondering if 60w is going to give enough clean headroom?

60w will give you enough clean headroom until you are playing stadiums.

its ridiculously loud

for example the volume difference between a 50w and a 100w is only 3dB

the biggest thing to change is the amount of heat it kicks out!

I've been on the lookout for a mk series head for a while (anything from from a mkII to a mkIV), but they all seem to be combos.

Well thanks for that. I'll have to keep my eye out for it. I'm in no rush to get this amp. Just gonna look around for a couple of months.

And how much can you get Mark IVs for second hand MDV?

Dunno never looked, but a lot less than a new MkV.

Take a look at the Future Breed Machine FBM100 from DAR. Or a DAR Forza. Don't know where you're based, but if you get to try one out, please report back on how it was! It's the *only* things I have GAS for. :)

It's no good if you're really after Mesa tone, but the Carvin V3M fits most of your requirements.

Build one!

I can get hold of PCBS & replica chassis pretty damn cheap!
