BKP Tele pickups for... Yes I'm serious here... Black Metal.
« on: November 22, 2011, 12:19:21 PM »
At some point in the near future, I'm gonna snag myself a Tele to fiddle around with at home. The main Raison D'etre of a Tele in my home, is of course to play more clean type stuff, as a sort of break from the absurdly dissonant bollocks noisecore stuff I play in my fairly time-consuming band.

However, I know I'd like something to play more straightforward, "melodic" Black Metal in E standard on as well, so I might as well kill two Frostbitten Ravens of the Grim Mountains of the North with one stone.

Naturally, the first choice is the Piledriver, but I'm kind of thinking the Blackguard 50 would be useful too. The thing is just that the "metal" clips on those show a riffing style quite the opposite of what I need it for. We all know the Piledriver can djent with the best of 'em, but can it do tr00 kvlt blakk metal as well?

As for tonal references, I'm thinking newer Deathspell Omega, older Ulver, Krallice, Woe... I.e. the newer "hipster" black metal and not necessarily the first- and second-wave that intentionally sounded like arse. That can be achieved with more or less anything. I'm thinking more along the lines of something snarling, harsh and high-mid-ish that can have some amount of heft at lower(-ish) gain setting. Basically the guitar tone on "Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice" by Deathspell Omega is the benchmark here.

That said, they should sound lovely on clean as well. Think Andy Summers here.

So what would you lads say?

Sigh.

It's been done so many times, and every single time I say the same thing: playing a tele makes you look like a total bender! And that's horribly offensive to the gay community, I really shouldn't tar them with the tele-player brush.

Might as well go the whole hog and tell the world you like the Beatles. :/

I honestly think "Fool On The Hill" is one of the best songs ever written.

I like the BG50's throatiness, Clip sounds convincing, but I have the old set, which is the BG52-set now.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I actually do like mashed potatoes very much, but I don't know if it counts with me since I will happily eat anything put in front of me.

Everything I've ever heard from the piledriver makes me want to brutalize one of my guitars and put one in.

To top it off, Fender are making a Silverburst Tele, which is quite cheap off of Thomann these days.
