Gibson Floyded Explorer
« on: November 24, 2011, 04:48:10 AM »
hey,

I just picked up a Gibby Explorer with the Original Floyd Rose and "Obeche" fretboard.  everything else seems to be standard Explorer....a big mahogany beast.  I want to replace the stock pickups with a pair of Bare Knuckles.

I want to use this guitar for classic thrash from the 80's and early 90's.  I was thinking a Painkiller in the bridge but not sure about the neck?  Holy Diver perhaps?

I'll probably use the neck primarily for clean tones and maybe some lead work.

I understand the Painkiller neck model is super hot and not good for cleans?

any suggestions?

Thanks!
Dean

I've just had the Painkiller Bridge model and Cold Sweat Neck put into a Les Paul, and i find the PK bridge very good for cleans, I asked Tim for P/ups that would handle 80's Iron Maiden, Dream Theater and Iced Earth, but still do cleans like Alterbridge.

My vote would go PK/CS or Miracle Man/CS the Painkiller is tighter (IMHO) but the Miracle man has thicker low mids and has a bit more oomph for palm mutes (again imho)
