it looks strange, but it isn't really any more unwieldy than an Explorer or a Firebird.  or a V for that matter!  i'm not saying i like it, but it's not (quite) the worst i've ever seen.

looks nicer than the Epi

That's like saying a pile of poo looks nicer than a pool of vomit.

(Sorry, don't know what came over me there...  )

how about the Epiphone POOL OF POO, then?

Actually, I saw the Gibson version of that on eBay quite recently.  I remember Elyse Steinman from Raging Slab used to play slide on one of those.

It's hideous, but not quite as ridiculous as a coffin.

To give Schecter their due, they were making coffin-shaped basses for White Zombie's Sean Yseult back in the mid-to-late '90s (and guitars too, I think) long before Zakk was slinging one. They are pretty silly-looking instruments. I suppose if you're playing in a tongue-in-cheek Goth band you could get away with it.

And for the bass player:

But really, if you play a coffin shaped instrument on any other day than halloween, it's time you get help.

I'm curious about what kind of music that DB player actualy plays - the black clothing, wallet chain, tats, shaven head all say one thing, but then the instrument....

Or perhaps with the Lonsdale tee-shirt he's some sort of MMA or kick boxer that happens to like jazz?

It's probably some sort of psychobilly/rockabilly/folkpunk. For lack of a better word :)

The epiphone looks more like a coffin.
