^ yeah. I think the problem is that, since all the regular production models have the one-piece maple necks, they feel they have to offer rosewood or ebony on the wildcards just so people have some options. But personally I'd prefer maple
I've said it on other forums (maybe i've said it on here too, i forget  ), but personally i'd prefer a few more (pretty basic) options on the regular production models, even if it meant they had to do away with the wildcard concept. The wildcards are so arbitrary (to me, anyway) that they're not really a whole heap of use, and for a marketing plan (i.e. it forces you to buy now as IT'LL BE DISCONTINUED SOON!) it's fairly daft too, as most people i've talked to (online) were of the same opinion as me- rather than twisting your arm into buying the wildcard now rather than later, it was actually discouraging them from buying one of the regular production models in case the next wildcard was exactly what they wanted
I mean, while I can appreciate that having options costs more money, I can't see that having a couple of pickup layout options, the option of a floyd or hardtail, and the option of different fingerboard woods, but having those options all the time (i.e. maybe some rearrangement/retooling of the factory at teh start, but that's it), would cost any more than the wildcard concept where they're basically making a completely different guitar (and presumably having to disrupt their production lines for it) every couple of months.
Could be wrong, of course, i'm no businessperson
