It was the plus version and I did try every tube in my stash with that sucker. The only reason I picked it up was because it was dirt cheap($600 USD :lol:) as it had sky blue tolex which I dyed black before selling it. It doesn't share any circuitry with a Peavey 5150, man. Simply put, it's missing a few gain stages, a cold clipping stage and the masses of hiss. :)
Now if you're talking about the new EVH ones which are indeed very Marshally in their preamp design, then I wouldn't disagree as I haven't heard the EVH ones in person. I can say that the outside looks a bit like a toy, but the internal construction was AMAZING for a production amplifier. Very neat layout. Good components. Solder joints all shiny and solid. For those that like the sound, it's a well built amp.
