Internet bands
« on: December 13, 2011, 01:18:19 PM »
Now I'm working and have slightly odd shift patterns, it means I don't always have evenings and weekends free, so trying to get a proper band together isn't really going to work as regular practices and gigs won't happen. I've also found I don't write music that well in a band situation anyway! Been wanting to do something with the music I've been writing for ages and think maybe some kind of internet e-band could work. I have probably a short albums worth of music I would love to actually finish rather than just having it sat around with spaces left for vocals. I only really need lyrics writing and singing, and bass (though could do bass myself when I can afford one). Drum wise I'm just using EZD at the minute but thinking of upgrading to BFD2 as I'm getting tired of the Toontrack sound!

Anyone done this before and if so where did you find your singer and did it end up working out at all? Oh and if anyone here would be interested here's my stuff for you to have a listen to :)

I have done this before many years ago with a group of people on the metallica forum.

It worked out quite well.

I'm in pretty much the exact same situation as you are now.

Loads of material with no way of completing it other than learning to sing!

As for the BFD thing check out BFD2 eco i believe its still only $20

i went from toontrack > BFD > Steven slate and i couldnt be happier with steven slate it out performs everything else ive tried.

I've listened to all the big drum names and I think BFD2 sounds best to me. Steven Slate sounds so overprocessed and dull to my ears. SD2 seems great but I've just heard the toontrack sound for too long with EZD so fancy a change.

BFD is great but it requires a heck of a lot of work to get things sounding even half good as you have to tune the drums and theyre completely raw.

With some tweaking though they can sound amazing

I'm in the same boat so I've resorted to recording my own stuff at home and so far it's got me out of my rut which I was struggling with. I plan on getting back into a band again once I get a job with regular shifts/hours, I really miss the band thing.

Tom, Tony, Steve,  I think !!

Been following this (short so far) thread.

I think I may be in a similar situation to you guys, when it comes to music/band 'collaberation' !

My gigging days finished a long time ago, but I must admit I do miss the buzz !  8)
If you have any interest in an old Jazz Blueser dropping in on your internet collabaerations,
then please PM me.

I wouldn't mind having a bash.  I used to sing in my last band and was reasonably not shite (kinda).  ;)

To give some idea of my abilities (hehehe, yeah!) here's our last demo from $%&#ing years ago: http://soundcloud.com/mu77ley/sets/bushpilots-vacant-situations/

I do lead vox on all except Wishful Thinking which was my co-guitarist Markie's song.

I've got the gear to record reasonable quality stuff (obviously not studio quality gear/environment).

Great stuff Tom. You should go on with it and make this album. I hear the vocals to it, but hey, I'm not a good singer.. :x

haha yeah same here. I'm kind of hoping for something about like the Goo Goo Dolls singer. Bit gravelly in places but not too much so that it starts to all sound a bit "Lemmy" :)

The Jamsite forum is still up if anyone wants to get it going again as it was originally designed for these kind of collaberations but everyone lost interest in it!
