Most unusual maple top?

That'll be some burl-- always reminds me of brains! I've got a nice piece back at home just waiting to be the top of something nice :)

i love a bit of burl on occasion.  Have not had one that 3D, but the darkness helps with that

worth having a look at thuya burl, amboyna burl and buckeye burl if you like crazy woods

Patrick Hufschmid gets his tops from this company. I really love the grafted walnut tops where they cut tops that are half one type of walnut and half another.
But on the subject of Maple, I think this set is very nice. You can see a guitar in there quite easily.

yeah, i went through a maple burl phase - those 3 were all built 2005-2006 and i think they all came from gallery hardwoods in the US
