Emerald In An Edwards Les paul
« on: February 14, 2012, 10:39:40 AM »
Hi, I'm a newbie to the forum but not to BK pickups! I bought an emerald set recently which I installed in a cheapish les paul copy to try and bring the tone nearer my Tokai Jap Love Rock. However I have just bought an Edwards lP 92 SD which is a much better guitar, it comes with A Duncan JB in the bridge and a 59 in the neck, I think the JB is a little hot for me and am wondering about transfering my emerald set into the Edwards, has anybody got emeralds in an Edwards? and what do you think the differemce will be between the emerald and the JB as regards tone and eq, many thanks in advance :D

I don't have an Emerald and I don't have an Edwards Les Paul but I had no less than three JBs - and I hated all of them.

Given the fact that you already have the Emerald there is no harm in trying it in the Edwards LP. Compared to the JB you can expect a bit less output, more dynamics, much more clarity and articulation, less bass and mids and more highs.

Cheers Stephan

I very nearly bought an Edwards E-LP-92CD on eBay just the other day, and had I won it I was going to put Emeralds in it.

Great minds think alike.  I say go for it!  :D
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

The Emeralds are about the only BKPs left that I have any sort of interest in that I don't already have, so I'm hoping you try them in the Edwards and post back as I'm very curious

Thanks for the replies guys, will go for it :) The pups in my love rock are 11k and 7.5, the emeralds are 13 and 10k, however the love rock still sounded hotter  than the emeralds in my copy, strange, I am hoping the better quality of the Edwards will let the emeralds really shine 8)

You can't read too much into DC resistance figures, the higher DC of the Emeralds may simply be due to a thinner wire in the pickup coils.  I've often read that the Emeralds are not particularly hot pickups, in fact the product page describes them as having "moderate output".   It's all about Tone!
