Active pickups in MDF?

I was wondering whether the rumour that active pickups sound the same in any guitar was true. Go chaz told me, and frankly it sounds silly. But if it's true then I'm making an MDF-beast!

ok i want to see this... (although technically i cant see it because you live in warwickshire... and even if i was with you i couldnt actually SEE the call because thats impossible... i could see you MAKING the call of course... but not the actual initiation of the call itself... and similarly i couldnt see andy and you at the same time... unless i had the aid of a video chat service such as Macintosh's Ichat AV... ANYWAY)

because i want to 'see' this (explanation above) i'll answer your question so you can go and ring andy  :P  .... here goes....

answer = ermmmmmmm yes  :roll:  they sound the same in all things....

Active pickups make guitars sound pretty simular due to the way they work. MDF would be a pretty poor wood to make a quitar from mostly becasue it warps in contact with moisture and because it is compressed fibre which does not resonate well.

That crazy assumption is false, active pickup just give what the wood give with just a slight hint of their own sound (some compression and a different voicing depending on the magnet used). Put an EMG81 in a cr@p guitare and you get a real loud cr@p guitar :lol:

Sorry about that. I've decided to scr@p my MDF project, and concentrate more on real tone woods. It won't happen again. At least, not on my ship.
