It's almost like it's fashionable to think the forum has gone to the dogs and so everybody is convincing themselves that it has. Maybe that's a sign of our collective old age?

Also, as far as politics and religion go - don't forget that some people just enjoy talking about those things, even if it does get a bit heated sometimes. The exact same thing happens with real life friends in the pub, so why is it a problem on here? You don't have to get involved if it's not for you.

This is pretty much exactly what it is.

Its rather ironic that we seem to have a recent trend of people that dont like arguing arguing about arguing (well, whining about arguing would be more accurate).

The other thing is when some people dont like the topic of discussion, they will try and derail it with flippant comments about picks or pictures or whatever. Thats just being a child: if people are taking part in a discussion you dont want to take part in, dont take part in it. Dont try and undermine it because its not for you, on a topic you want or in a tone that you like.

Can we just have the basic, common sense, civil and decent practice of talking about the right things in the right places and leaving people alone on the topic of their choices of discussion topic? As long as its civil, whats the problem? I cant for the life of me understand why thats difficult for some poeple.

Harmony central version:
People want to talk about things you dont want to talk about, get the sand out of your vagina and leave them to it.

/harmony central version.

We do have a very long way to go till we can be compared to there ;)

But to be honest, if anything's been in decline it's the Pickups, Tech etc threads rather than anything off-topic.  There are still lots of new threads in those on-topic sections, but not as much input or discussion as there used to be (at least, that's my impression).
+1

When I joined mid 2005, i remember every section was bumping.  there were less users, yet more in depth input and analyses regarding gear.  if i asked a question....more times than not my thread was on the 2nd page in a few hours....with a page or two of great answers and suggestions already in it...

i believe because it was a small group, members felt closer.......just the nature of the beast....bkp took off and now people come on and dont want to stay and join the community, but just want a quick answer and leave.  cant blame them, but i have been much less incline to respond to threads just because....

plus the sounds clips basically helped people so they need not post either...
[/quote]

The decline in Players forum is most lamentable. I dont take part as though I record lots, I rarely record BKs any more. If theres any change to the BK board I would like to see, its the addition of a dedicated pure recording board. Toe Knee tried to start one and I tried to help, but it never took off; there may be much more success with one thats actually part of the BK main forum. Make it members only or something, so that visitors just get the BK clips in players (which was a stroke of genius on Tims part).

Let's be positive here folks, this is the best guitarists forum on the internet and I should know, I've been banned from a few. There's no egos flying round, no one bangs on about how they're better than everyone else, there's a lot of people offering very good advice and a continual undercurrent of humour and good-natured p1ss-taking.

And there's pretty pictures of Stratocasters.

And Telecasters.

And other guitars. But I don't look at those.

I like it when Philly discusses bands like Quicksand... to be fair I like it when anyone talks about that band.

Blimey, I'm amazed you remember me mentioning them!  :o

But I'm no expert on that band, I'm afraid.  Just had a fairly brief phase a few years back investigating some alternative(?) bands like Quicksand, Rival Schools, Jawbox, Fugazi, Helmet, Handsome and the Rollins Band.  I probably shouldn't even be lumping them together like that.

(There we go, that's off-topic....)
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

and rival schools is pretty much Quicksand too. I met Sergio who played bass in quicksand once. Backstage at brixton academy after Deftones played, since he's playing in Deftones now. I was there with the dude who sang in Burn... ever hear that band? AWESOME band. lets not forget Gorilla Biscuits. Great band also.

Rollins Band is getting played HEAVILY on my ipod at the moment. Would love to write some music in the vein of the bands you just 'lumped together'.

Dude. Burn is amazing. Chaka from Burn was living here in London for a while. I jammed some of his songs and we had a band going briefly. It was pretty good. Then the drummer quit and getting something else moving along became hard work, and his situation got complex. we played one show in london. Good guy. I dropped him a line recently as it was his birthday. Him and his missus are out in san francisco now. The band I play in now supported Supertouch in london (love supertouch) and Chaka came out to that. I spoke to his partner about the old NYC shows. Her first show was with Supertouch, and I think her second ever show was a benefit for amnesty at the ritz. she told me she was trying to convince the owner she could sell out that venue by putting on Quicksand, Supertouch, Token Entry etc... and he wouldn't believe her... and then Raybeez from warzone walked past the office and overheard her, and he came in and convinced his boss (he was working at the ritz and the time) that it would all work out.

amazing people. amazing stories. Orange 9mm is also great. The guitarist from that band plays in Bush now I think? Or used to at some point!

EDIT: I have two crystals in my 4x12 cab that Chaka took me shopping for back when he was into Tarot. That is my favourite story about hanging out with Chaka.

that is a great story..... definitely a cool guy...

there are not a lot of bands today that get me amp'd like those bands.....im going to have to check out rival schools as i've not heard of them....

my mentality is kinda like the h2o song - what happened?........though i guess that goes for every generation....lol..........i was a teenager in the 90's....

h2o - what happened?

When it began, for those who don't know
it didn't matter how you looked or what you wore to a show
dress codes, $%&# NO! we didn't care
about the brand of your jeans and all that shite in your hair

But now the biggest part is all about the image and not the art
Fashion before passion!
And at nights, it makes me mad that I should have to ask:
What happened to the passion? (passion!)
What -happened to- the reason for screaming?
What happened the music and the message that I love?
What happened to the hard work? (hard work!)
And why does everybody look the same?
What happened the music and the message that I love?

And I know, that people change
and we go through different stages in life
and I'm not here to criticize
but the reason I scream, is a feeling inside

But now the biggest part is all about the image and not the art
Fashion before passion!
And at nights, it makes me mad that I should have to ask:
What happened to the passion? (passion!)
What -happened to- the reason for screaming?
What happened the music and the message that I love?
What happened to the hard work? (hard work!)
And why does everybody look the same?
What happened the music and the message that I love?

Lost (1,2,3,4) lifetime ago it seems
you gave up on your wildest dreams
but i refuse to let mine go
I took an oath, you can find me here
with an open heart and ears
refusing to surrender
I can't believe they don't remember
what it feels like to be young

What happened to the passion? (passion!)
What -happened to- the reason for screaming?
What happened the music and the message that I love?
What happened to the hard work? (hard work!)
And why does everybody look the same?
What happened the music and the message that I love?

Rival Schools have a few songs that originally appear on that collection of Quicksand B-sides and Rarities. which has some BANGERS on it, like Voice Killer and Shovel, and a awesome live version of Baphomet. It's less heavy and more straight up rock, but its good. I haven't heard that latest record but there was a rumour its basically an unreleased Quicksand record or something. dont quote me on that.

I feel you. The H20 song is on point.

Rollins Band is getting played HEAVILY on my ipod at the moment.

Chris Haskett lineup, Jim Wilson one, or both?

I prefer the Haskett stuff.  Even though I like the kind of '70s retro rock Mother Superior played I don't think it quite worked with Rollins Band.

Both. I prefer the Haskett stuff though.
End of Silence, Weight. Nice is ok. I need to hear Get Some Go Again though, but I like the title track of that record.

That's not really surprising though, is it? The BKP line is maybe 60-70% the same as it was when the forum was young, something like that? How many new things can you say about the same pickups? Same for tech really, and to a lesser extent guitars, amps & effects.
