NGD (.....Philly Q, the low budget Twinfan!) [....REVISITED!]

In my continuing travels through the less glamorous suburbs of PRS country, I've just picked up another little bargain (....I think)

It's a 2006 Standard Satin 22.  All mahogany, Wide Fat neck, Dragon II pickups, just a fraction under 7 pounds in weight.  The satin finish has gone mostly shiny from playing, there are about a dozen minor battle scars dotted about, but that doesn't bother me like it would on a more upmarket model. 

Definitely a Plain Jane.... apart from the Birds (I was a Moons man for a long time, considered Birds excessively blingy, but they have recently won me over!).  But feels good, plays great. 

And this is the eighth PRS I've owned (ninth including the SE) and still not one with an exotic maple top, or indeed any kind of maple top.... is that some kind of record?  :P

looks workmanlike as you say. i wonder how the appearance would be changed without the pickup covers - more rock maybe?

Very good choice. I've got a 2007 Singlecut Standard Satin and it's probably the most resonant and versatile sounding guitar I've played. I love how the Satin finish wears too, looks like it's had years of hard playing.

I think it might be - but I'm thinking of trying my chrome covered Cold Sweat set and switching to black pickup rings.

If that doesn't work, then maybe I'll try something else, probably with black and/or zebra open coils.

Or just leave it as it is!  :lol:

Steve, you're right about the finish, it's so thin and wears so quickly it'd be impossible to keep it "perfect".  It's funny, as the satin polishes up it almost looks like an old nitro finish which started shiny then acquired a dull patina over the years.

I like it very much, I personally go for this "work horse" guitar look much more than the "dentist guitars" with the fancy maple tops. I love the satin/mahogany look.

I used to feel this way. Then I met Dave. Then I played his 245 last week. Gorgeous guitar.

I like this one too Philly - great stuff! Is this the only PRS you have? I know you've bought 8, not sure how mnay you've got left.

It's looking real good. The no-blingy look is just my thing. I think I prefer a guitar like this over, as example, one with an overly wild quilt top. If you change the pickups leave the cream rings and go for zebras  :D

Great catch! I like the no frills attitude of this axe. I would take nickel covers on this one, but black open poles is a good option too.
