I am building a parts Telecaster. I got my body and my Blackguard Tele Series Flat 50 set today. I noticed the set comes with the screws to mount the neck pickup to the body. Is it an issue to switch it to mount to the pickgaurd?

Any differance in sound and is it as simple as getting a set of screws and springs from a pickgaurd mounted pickup and using?

I'm fairly certain it is as simple as that - I've often considered doing it myself (every time I want to adjust the pickup height ).

Difference in sound... I don't know. My first thought was "no, of course not". But maybe someone else might know different? (I suspect the answer might be "there is some difference, but not enough for us to hear it" !)

there is some difference, but not enough for us to hear it ;)

direct mounting pickups can affect the tone as it vibrates with the body a lot more than one mounted to a sheet of plastic - although adding springs/tubes/foam under the pickup generally reduces this to some degree
