Problems with pickup mounting
« on: May 21, 2012, 02:35:06 PM »
Hello!
I have this little stupid problem that I hope some of you could clarify for me.
I've bought Aftermath bridge pickup for my Apex2 more than a year ago. Today I wanted to do some guitar maintenance and fix this issue with pickup mounting. Problem is that pickup goes by the thread of the screw and this means that I cannot adjust height of the pickup without taking it fully out. As I understand pickup should go freely on the screw so it would be pushed by the spring. I'm using screws that came along with pickup.
Am I mounting it wrong or I don't understand something? As I see it I need different screws or bigger mounting holes in pickup.

Are you sure that the screws haven't got cross threaded by accident?

It's possible that there was a mistake with the way that the mounting holes in the pickup were machined I guess but I'd be very surprised, especially as you used the screws supplied with the pickup. Perhaps if you emailed BKP they could suggest something, especially if it did turn out to be a manufacturing fault.

Thanks for answer!
No, they're not cross headed. I have been putting them in and out for a few times.

Any other suggestions or I should better write to BKP?

Is the pickup attached directly to the body?

The screws which come with BKPs are designed to be used with mounting rings.

If the pickup is attached directly, without mounting rings, you'll need to slightly enlarge the holes in the feet of the pickup then attach it to the body with wood screws, which should pass freely through the mounting holes.  You should be able to use the original screws which came with the guitar.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Yes, pickup is attached directly to the body.

Well, ok. It seems that I'll need to drill those pickup mounting holes a little bigger.

Thank you for answer!
