Alright guys,

After your recommendations and some more research, I'm strongly leaning towards a VHII in the bridge and a mule or riff raff in the neck. I think I'll probably end up going with the mule to get that really creamy neck pickup tone! I will post again once I decide, order and install them! Thanks!

Mule neck : fatter, creamier, sometimes bordering on "a bit too much cream" in a dark / warm SG depending on the amp, EQ and setup. Wonderful jazzy warm clean tones.

RR neck: clearer, punchier, less fat and "cream", more single-coilish, but works a bit better for overdriven tones IMHO since it has a bit less low end and a but more hi end. Really nice clean tones too but obviously less rounded.

I never played the VHII so I can't tell which of the Mule or RR would be the best match wrt/ EQ.
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

I have a Gibson SG faded. It as had a number of pickups in over the years.  The stock pickups were muddy sounding and just not nice. They were changed to a set of Seymour Duncan Phat Cats. Before I really new about just how good Bare Knuckles were. Anyway they were better but just not for me.  I wapped them for a set of VHII which again was better but not quite right for me (I am trying to think what they had missing now). Anyway they got swapped out for a set of Riff Raffs. The search is over now. The riff raff is the pickup for my sg. I may have to go and have a play to try to describe just why it sounds so right.

Is the RR much brighter than the VHII's that you had in there?

The riff raff is slightly brighter from what I remember of the VHII in that guitar.  That said it just fits lovely with the slightly dark tone of the guitar. Lovely played clean.  Plenty of snarl when distorted.  Pickup is quite edgy. Though in the SG does not seem quite as edgy as the other guitars I have had the pickup in.  For me the VHII's were nice in the SG but seem to work better in the other guitars I have had them in. The RR's just work great (for me) in that guitar.
