Custom Cab Manufacturers
« on: June 03, 2012, 12:39:53 PM »
Hi,

I am after a 2x12" cab but want it made with basket weave and other custom bits. Do any of you have any experience with any particular manufacturers?

I really want it to be unloaded as I would like to put weber speakers in it.

Thank you all for any help.

I'm pretty sure if you get in touch with Tom and tell him you're local he'll invite you around to try one in advance to see if it suits you.

Heck you could even take your amp.

Definitely going to give them a call, it is literally down the road. It is a shame they only supply Eminence speakers though :(

I have heard Webers in a few cab and really like what Ted Weber does, I also like Scumbacks but am yet to hear them at full tilt. Funny how the Americans do British better than us Brits!

Seeing the convenience you have being so close to Roadkill, I can't see why you shouldn't go Roadkill!

hehe

i keep hearing good things about tayden, but haven't tried them. haven't tried weber either, for that matter :(

you can get the roadkill cab unloaded if you want to fit your own speakers, just to point out.

Although Weber do a wide variety of speakers they are better known (in my view) for their "American style" speakers.

I've Webers in a couple of my amps, and installed them in several other amps, with very good results. (I'm into American amps, well Fender.....)

Unfortunately Weber speakers aren't cheap this side of the pond. I'm not a great fan of the "RI" Jensens, so if you want an American style speaker at reasonable pricing you are somewhat limited to Eminence.

There is mucho interest in vintage British amps in the States and hence the interest in making British-style speakers.

WGS seem to make some interesting speakers, but the only EU importer (Tube Town) only seems to stock the British style speakers from the WGS range, which is a shame as it would be nice to have some more options for American style speakers.

Scumbacks are made by Weber.

We use Tayden speakers in our amps, but these are British-style speakers.

Hey Frank, How's it hangin?

Scumbacks used to be made by Weber but there was some kind of falling out and Scumback make their own speakers now.  The guy who runs the show (name escapes me) documented it all out in the open on the Metroamps board.

Ain't tried Scumbacks yet, but they always sound good on the demos I've heard.

Ditto for Taydens, AND you're supporting a UK company who really do things right and are very approachable.
