New Ibanez Day!
« on: June 21, 2012, 06:41:52 PM »
Today it took a trip through to Glasgow to pick up my belated 21st brithday present. After buying it earlier in the week, it needed a little work done, but now it's here:

A pair of Seymour Duncan/Ibanez humbuckers for my Epiphon SG Prophecy!
Although, now that I think about it, they did come in a funny box...

With some kind of wooden stick inside...

It's an Ibanez Prestige SZ4020. Preowned, but in great shape save for two small dings, both on the back. Set up in C standard with Bareknuckle Miracle Men pickups. Sounds pretty metal.

As for it's stock pickups, they're pretty decent in the Epi. Need to play about a bit more, but sounding good for Tool type rock stuff.

It's been a good day.

When I saw the title I thought "duh, another super skinny Ibanez". But that SZ is gorgeous; they are my fave Ibanez line and I think they even discontinued them (?).  A pity, those are really nice and meaty guitars. Congratulations!
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

Yeah, they're gone now. Only S's they make are the S and SA series now. Maybe the DN series is supposed to be it's "spiritual successor". I don't mind the skinny necked Ibbies, but they really do need some chunkier necked super-strats. And more fixed bridges! Every guitar they've put out that's caught my eye has a damn floating trem!

Oh god, yes!  Ibanez unquestionably make some nice guitars (though not as nice as the ones they made in the early '80s), but the skinny necks quite simply rule them out as far as I'm concerned.

I can't see how it would do any harm to offer a bit more choice.  They'd gain some new customers, without losing any existing ones!

But anyway, congratulations on the NGD!  :D
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I've always liked the looks of Ibanez S series guitars but the skinny necks on most put me off. This one looks great. Good purchase and a belated happy birthday!
