Question about the Warpig ?
« on: April 04, 2005, 11:01:39 PM »
Hi.
If I wanted a very powerful pickup for the bridge position to play mostly METAL  would the Warpig be the best one to go for ? Is it the most powerful pickup Bare Knuckles make?

I've heard that it gives quite a similar sound to EMG pickups. Is that right ? Would it work well with Drop-D tunings ?

The Warpig is a seriously powerful pickup and several users find it out performs '81s without the sterility of tone.
Obviously i've tested them extensively im my own axes but I've also been lucky to try customers guitars that have come along to the trade fairs we do. Other than my LPs, I've played Ibanez RGs with them-serious silly grin 8) and Washburn superstrats-equally fun and even a Patrick Eggle which I must confess was really hard to put down  !!

For serious shredding or deathfest I don't think anything can touch the Warpig but the surprising extra is clean tones are really useable too. Something  to try is running them in parallel, especially the neck for a wicked clean tone.

Dear Tim, What do you mean by "wicked"? Is the parallel sound comparable to that of a single coil, or an in-between position of a Strat?

wicked = great, good, excellent etc.

Parallel tone is more comparible to the in between tone on Strats with a RWRP middle.

The Warpig is what us evil ones in detroit call the PIMP.This fuker reads really hot, with a 22.5k reading. To my surprise, the sound ,and harmonic stucture are flawless.22.5 would make you think real gainey, but it really is not. What you do hear,is clear balanced tones, with a crisp, tight harmonic structure. The  s.d.distotion is reading at 16k,and sounds way more gainey and sloppy.Thats at 16k.Bareknuckles are built around achieving the best possible tone from you setup, with a wide variety of to pick from, for your playing style. The warpig is Very versital too.On a fender,it shimes, with glory, praise the lord!On a marshall 800,The Goddamm Devil Made Me Do It!!!POINT being, dont let the heat get to you, just cause it is reading high ohm,Its not as gainey as you would think.I just got done beating the shite out of some duncans, dimarzios, and lately,Rio GRand-the texas, the bbq,the crunch box,and the punch, all of which claim to be calibrated for eachother.I use a set of calibrated pigs, and those lil demonic bar-stewards should go to prision for life for the asswhoopin they keep dishing out on everything that comes in their path.OH,and the emg's,oh my fuking god!!!Im gonna burn in sulfur. They melt Emg's down to matonin. This is the best pickup you can buy.For every style, groove, and jamm.
           Hail the horned one,You FUKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Motormouth came to be,when i got a set of calibrated Pigs!Me and my mates just put them in ,and the neck Pig started runnin her mouth so fiercely,we couldnt believe it.SO,i natureally called the neck Pig,my Motormouth.By far,the neck Pig,i have honestly, never heard a pickup sound so full, and the low notes arevery pure and focused, not rounded and boomy.JTM45,stop fukin around and get a calibrated set!Tim will put any finish you want on it,he'd even piss on it for good luck.Im one of the most $%&#ed bar-stewards when it comes to tone,im the guy,who records 15,18,pickups,all at the same settings, same amp, same cables, etc,to hear for myself.Theres others like me out there too,Tim is for sure a tone hound!OMG!Good luck to you jtm45,as im sure BKP has something for you.Whatever you decide, you wont be disapointed!!Peace,Love, good happieness shite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You really can't go wrong with a Warpig if you play metal, a friend of mine has barrowed my calibrated set of warpigs for his Jackson Kelly, and man he's blown away by the sound coming out from that mofo   Imagine yourself with a Jackson Kelly, a set of calibrated Warpigs, a peavey triple XXX and a 12x4 cabinet... You really can't go wrong with that!

Sry missed the triple... my bad!
Pardon my english, I'm from sweden

I think everyone has a right to love the Warpig! It is one of, if not THE, best pickup i've ever heard for sure! I no a lot of people use EMG's because they say they are pure metal but NO. Not anymore they're not!

Warpig = Rulepig

'Rulepig', that's ace!

EMG's are good, but as Tim said, you could strap the bleeders to a baseball bat or a custom made Gibson and they'd still sound the same.  I don't think the pickups were made for \m/METAL\m/ but more for players who discovered that they wanted to put their sound through loads of effects without getting 'bogged down' by effects boxes.  That's why they have a high voltage/output/whatever and are good for overdriving an amp.

And the clean sound sucks donkey balls.

Thats why the 'Rulepigs' come in handy! I like what bands like the Murderdolls and Metallica do with EMG's but its not enough to make me buy some! Also like my clean sound, and yes EMG clean sound does suck donkey balls. Thats why I wonder about the versatility of the warpig, it must be pretty versatile as it just sounds good doing any genre of music.

Bar hip-hop and Gabba. That would just sound weird.

Gabba really does blow chunks, I've never heard anything so bad...

Apart from the chart 'R&B' (re: Rubbish & Boring) and 'Hip Hop', the proper stuff is actually really good though, same with dance music.

Go download some Aphex Twin :D
