Yeah, that's a mental price, cool though the guitar is.

I saw a '70s hardtail which sold for less than £700 the other day - that's much, much less than they usually go for and it was in a bit of a state with lots of non-original parts.  But still, some indication of the premium you pay for the celebrity connection!

The L6S is interesting.  I wouldn't have known he owned one, but it must have been used a fair bit since it's quite heavily modified (unless that's the way it was when he bought it).

He did quite like picking up "interesting" guitars in pawn shops etc when he was on tour in the US. His Gretsch Corvette was acquired that way - Donal spotted it and told him about it. That one had already been converted to humbucker and (I think, can't remember) had it's vibrato removed.

I'm not really sure whether I've even heard of an L6S before. Is it an 80s thing?

I remember reading an interview with him where he said there was a period when Fender kept giving him new strats because they were embarrased at how beat-up his was. I also remember him saying he didn't use the trem, but he didn't really like the hardtails (which might be where my preference comes from! :lol:)


It all seems a bit odd that this clear out of gear "from under Rory's bed" is happening now. Does anyone know the story?

70s.  Weird looking thing with a maple body, there was even a maple fretboard version (but still with a black-faced headstock  :x )

That "Chocolate Brown" Strat ( actually they called it Walnut I think)is the same colour as my old Strat.Mine is 1976 though and is a hardtail. It is well used with a relic finish brought about by hundreds of gigs. Jonathan re fretted it for me.The bridge pieces had worn out and were unusable. Great sounding guitar though and plays well.
