Honestly I wish you nothing but the best.

Some marriages work, but the majority don't.

ALL but one of my friends who've married are now divorced. I've lived the breakdown through each one of their experiences and all of them married with honest intentions yet had the rug pulled.

Marriage is still sold as the gold standard of relationships but along with the fantasy "Big day" follows alot of hard work.

So much unrealistic sentiment peppers the concept of wedding planning that the reality of what is to follow comes as a hard fall.

Divorce is just too easy now.

I used to think marriage was the end goal - the inevitable state of a life well lived.

Now I recognise it as a systematic legal transfer of personal sovereignty and wealth.

But... I could be wrong.  :?

Speaking as an outsider, it's funny how some marriages work and others don't.

I know several people (my brother included) who've been married over 20 years and - although I'm sure they've had their ups and downs - there's never any question of the marriage ending.

Whereas I have other friends who've been married more than once and you feel that their current marriages/relationships are always balanced on a knife edge and could easily fall apart.

So there's something fundamentally different about those relationships, but it's really hard to work out what it is.  Especially since they all went in with essentially the same intentions.

this is oddly relevant to the best man speech i am trying to write at the moment for next weekend.  I am one of 3 best men so have said we should  do a past, present and future kinda act

came across this - which you may want to read gwem
http://www.psychpage.com/family/brwaitgalligher.html

gonna be easy to get some laughs out of those statistics (well, all but the rape and domestic abuse ones - that might not go down so well).

personally, i lived with laura for 10 years before marrying her - i really dont think much changed - until the baby came... that changed everything!!!   so far, for the better

it is the obvious joke and kinda the way i was thinking of going next weekend.

i was also going to make a joke about the more sex when married thing being true in the brides fathers case. but it might cut a bit close... it was discovered less than 2 years ago that he had a secret life which involved being a swinger without his wife's knowledge - she discovered his excel spreadsheet detailed 80ish partners with notes and pictures including the immortal line "first time with a man, hurts more than i expected"
