The Brew - Jason Barwick
« on: July 11, 2012, 03:50:08 AM »
Guys, I just fell in love;

To get there...

Irish Tours I guess?

Or would it be possible to get very close with the Mother's Milk (because I want to stay as versatile as possible)?

Greetings,

The overall vibe and bassresponse are to my ears more Mother's Milk then IT's and I have them both. The IT's are sort of an overwound version of the MM's, which have a woodier, snappier and a little brighter sound (genuine early sixties-tones). With IT's you can get close to MM's if you roll the guitars vol.knob a tad down. This way you roll of a bit of bass too, so everythings gets cleaner and snappier. Both are great pickups, the IT's a bit more Hendrix/SRV, the MM's more Frusciante, but that's a quite rough description. I like the MM-neck a bit more then the IT-neck, but onstage I prefer my HSS Crawler-IT's-strat, bec I can handle every style with it. My other HSS-strat has a VHII/MM's-combo.

I think the MM will have a little more of what you want.

Then it is decided! :D
Thanks for the help.
Can anyone give me an advice for the pedal? I play mainly at bedroom levels and my Wampler Pinnacle doesnt quiet get me there (although it sounds awesome). I thought about swapping it with a Box of Rock? Or maybe a Lovepedal Amp 50?

There are lots of nice boutiquepedals, it depends what tones you're after. I'm using and old Ibanez TS9 (1981) for blues, an Emma Reezafratzitz for anything from blues to hardrock, and a Suhr Riot on the clean channel of my amps to get serious distortion/solotones on low volumes.

If you want those kind of blues tones, there a lot of good pedals like the Emma Stinkbug, Barber Direct Drive, Okko Diablo +, Brunetti Taxidrive, Providence Silky Drive, Maxon VOP9, Rockett Blue Note overdrive, Xotic AC and BB, Mi Audio Blues Pro, Vahlbruch Jewel Drive, Jetter Jet Drive, Port City Sahana Boost, etc.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Well I'm after a Tone like the Brew. The Direct Drive sounds very interesing. Jason Barwick himself uses a Box of Rock (but mainly as a Booster with a cranked Marshall I guess).

Tonefreak Abunai 2 is great OD pedal - it would bring you to the blues territory, and even more than that easily.
Have one - use as a booster for my Marshall JVM 205, or as OD in Peavey Classic 30.

Box of rock is a great pedal, but as you sort of hinted it does sound best in front of a Marshall type amp. It can sound a little fizzy in front of a fender-y amp, which to my ears prefer boosts like Tubescreamers/Klon(e)s.

Or also have a look at the Suhr Shiba drive. these pedals were mainly designed for the clean channel of tubeamps.

I use a solid state amp (mainly, I think about getting a Laney Cub). But it's a pretty good one and I never heard a small tube amp that sounded as good as my amp does. The only reason for getting a tube amp would be the interactions with boosters/overdrive pedals.
Would the Barber DD still be a good choice?
