I'm not 100% sure about the pickups yet. I'm thinking Miracle man bridge with a VHII neck or a calibrated MM set. I've never owned a poplar guitar so I don't really know what to go for... Like I said, I'm hoping from some battle worn chrome covers but I don't know if BKP would do them. This project may take a few months seen as I'm on a part time supermarket wage! I'll post pics of progress though.

Any suggestions about pickups by the way guys? Like I said, I've no experience with poplar so don't really know the tone I'm going to get. I usually play dream theater type stuff, a bit of thrash, paul gilbert, Nuno (extreme) but I also play a lot of clean stuff... Asking a lot from one set of pickups I know. I play through a JCM 2000 DSL. I also own a Gibson explorer with Burstbuckers in but I'm after a bit more of a tighter pickup.

What about a calibrated cold sweat set?
It should be easily suitable for thrash and the like and is very versatile. Or what about something low output witha boost? A calibrated VHII set or RRs?

Divers, if the tonewoods have a medium to bright character.

Humm, I'm tempted to go for the high output CS set... I haven't really got the cash for a boost and the distortion on my marshall has always been plenty for me.

The Holy Divers would also be a really cool idea!

I don't know why but I've always had something against holy divers... I've never actually tried them. I somehow think they'll be a little too "average" sounding? I might have to try a pair just to get rid of my phobia :S

Holy Divers are certainly not average sounding! They sound excellent. What a silly idea. You've offended me now, say sorry! Nah, I'm joking, I have a similar "phobia" of aftermaths although deep down I'm sure it's incredibly stupid. The Holy Diver is an excellent pickup, especially the bridge. You may want to try the Emerald or Cold Sweat neck with it though. They are usually rated as better neck pickups than the HD and they work with the HD bridge very well and wil offer a wider variety of tones.

Haha ok I'm sorry! :D I have a Gibson 500T in the bridge of a BC rich that I've done up and although I like it in that guitar, it sounded incredibly dull in the explorer it came in. I for some strange reason imagine the holy diver to be the same. I think I had better try it seen as I've offended people. As for the neck, I think I'd better go with the cold sweat. I also have a bit of an urge to own a set of black dogs. God knows why...
