Some LoVe for tHe JMP1
« on: July 20, 2012, 05:12:35 AM »
Hey guys!

(I apologize in adVanCe for tHe typing issue, for some strange reason my C, H, and V keys are only working wHen Capitalized.)

Anyways, I got my JMP 1C a few weeks ago, mainly for use as a praCtiCe amp, late nigHt playing, and just a little more fun  :D WHen I first tried it out, I was pretty impressed witH tHe tone, it really sounded great, and tHe 10' speaker was deCent. Tried it tHrougH te 4x12 too, sounded Very niCe. A Couple of tHe features tHat definitely stood out to me were tHe .1W setting, wHiCH didn't disturb my sleeping roommates one bit, but still retained  a great, distorted tone. THe gain boost is also Very Cool as well, adds an extra tube to tHe mix tHat definitely giVes you tHat great modded Plexi/JMP tone.

HoweVer, it wasn't until reCently tHat I really found out wHat tHis baby Can do. WitH tHese 1W Heads and Combos MarsHall put out, you are aCtually able to slaVe it into a regular Head witH an FX Loop and keep tHe Cranked Preamp sound witH a master Volume on tHe slaVe Head. HOLY COW. THis tHing sounded absolutely inCredible, literally just like your faVorite Plexi or JMP, at any Volume you desire. I'Ve Heard only great tHings about tHese amps, and I definitely giVe MarsHall a big tHumbs up for tHis. If you guys get a CHanCe, I say try one out, you won't be disappointed.

When I think of the JMP1, I always think of this:

Nah, he's talking about the Marshall 50th anniversarry JMP 1-watt combo.
It sounds awesome.
The JMP has always been my favourite marshall amp, maybe I'll get a vintage 50-watter in the future. A JMP + a good boost/tubescreamer = heavens = Doug Aldrichs tone.

Yeah, I thought of the JMP1 preamp too, despite my ignorance of all things amp-related!

These little 1w amps do look very cool, though.  Problem is, it's tough to decide which one to get so you're tempted to "collect" them all.... or not buy any.

And aren't they only available for a limited time?
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

the one watt amps are supposed to be very good.  i've heard Chris George demo them in videos, and they did sound impressive.

however, one guy put up a clip with the same thing being played through three different amps; a JMP-1, a YJM100 and a vintage 1987.  he seemed to think it was hard to tell the difference.  i must say, i couldn't tell which was which between the YJM and the 1987, but the 1 watter in comparison sounded awful!  that could have been his recording though.

i'd love to try them out, but nowhere here has any.  they are pretty pricey on the face of it, but if they sound as good as they're supposed to, and given that they're made in England and limited edition, the price isn't too crazy.

YeaH, tHey're only aVailable for tHis year. THere's always eBay tHougH! You HaVe no Clue How tempted I am to go piCk up one of tHe JTM's and JCM's, to kinda make a de faCto 3-CHannel amp. Trust me wHen I say tHat JMP slaVed into a Head is addiCting tone. I belieVe tHere are a few guys on tHe MarsHall Forum wHo bougHt multiple 1W's and set tHem up tHat way, and it sounded just amazing. A niCe Clean witH tHe JTM, great rHytHm witH JMP, and solos witH a JCM.

YeaH, I Heard tHat Video too. WitHout being slaVed, tHe amp is a little bit HarsH, wHiCH definitely leans more towards a JMP, a la 2203, wHiCH is muCH HarsHer tHan 2 amps based off tHe ratHer smootH Plexi. I would bet tHat if He Had slaVed into eitHer of tHose Heads, it would HaVe been muCH Closer.

I Honestly Could not reCommend tHis amp any HigHer, if you get an opportunity to play one, take it. But also, to really do tHe amp justiCe, try to slaVe it if you Can. All you really need to do it is a Head/Combo witH an FX Loop and an extra instrument Cable.

the main guy on the Vintage Modern Forum, or the Marshall Roadhouse as it's now known, has had a head custom built with just a power amp and inputs for two or three of the one watt heads, so he can slave them all to it and switch between them as if it were a multi channel amp.  it looks pretty damn cool

YeaH, Nuke, rigHt? THe tone I was getting from tHe JMP was so amazing, and I was trying and trying to somewHat Copy tHat sound on my 6100, and I Couldn't at first. I was really seriously Considering using tHe JMP as my main sound and get a JTM for Cleans, luCkily I finally found a similar tone on tHe 6100. Minus te awesome pusHed tube distortion
