The old adage goes that any band is only as good as its weakest link. This is certainly true in my experience. The best bands, of course, don’t have a weakest link at all…
Enter Brighton based Zed’s Dead. A perfect example of a band where every musician is as good as the next. Powerful rock vocals, a seriously good but understated guitarist and a driving rhythm section to die for.
By two songs in, the small but growing crowd in The Malt Shovel were paying attention. By the end of the first set people were dancing. By the end of the night pretty much everyone was, including me (not pretty…).
The set list threw up few surprises on the whole - a fairly standard selection of classic rock and pop covers - but when the band is this good, who cares? Clapton, Hendrix, The Doors, The Cult, all the usual suspects were in evidence, but with all the important details faithfully reproduced and all delivered with aplomb. (Whatever that is, I never saw the plomb myself…)
All in all, a cracking night out at an excellent pub with one of the best covers bands I‘ve seen in the town for a while. Ones to watch out for!
