Which pickup for a Tele?
« on: February 15, 2006, 07:37:18 PM »
I've gone through the page a couple of times and it sounds really interesting. But now, which ones? I remember playing through a 52 RI tele once and really liked that sound...something in that range would be great, a vintage tele sound. What are the dif. of these pickups on the site? which one to go for? hmmm...

Well from what I can gather Country Boys sound very vintage, but I think most people find they can back higher output pickups off to "vintage output" using the volume knob then crank it back up for more contemporary stuff, that's what I do with my Boss set anyhow. You'd probably be best waiting for somebody who's played a wider range of the pickups though.

I have a Mex Tele 50's reissue with Country Boys. I have not tried the other BKP Tele pups. For what it is worth, the CB's are classic Tele tone. I have a mate with an old (1960's ) Tele- before the BKP's mine was a pale imitation. Now they are in the same area and very very close in tone.  Another mate of mine is considering going for the Yardbirds and I hope to try the two side by side.

I have a mexican 60's reissue and I really wonder what the big difference is between the yardbirds and the country boys...

I think we need Tim in. One thing I forgot to mention: I had a 4 way switch fitted- gives the usual 3 settings plus an extra- both pups in series. I recommend this- fatter and punchier- ideal for solos and the switch can be had from BKP.
