Pimping up a jackson rr24, warpig?
« on: August 03, 2012, 12:47:27 AM »
So i'm looking for a new BKP to hear, my RR24 is the next on the list. i plan to replace the EMG81 with something that complements the guitar a bit more.

I'm thinking Warpig, such a tiny guitar deserves a huge tone. am i right in this direction?

also, Alnico or Ceramic? i have a C-bomb in one of my guitars that i quite like the distant but there bass response kind of feeling... i'm thinking the C-pig might have that same vibe...

it's tuned in D standard most of the time.

thanks for pointers!

What is the RR24 made of? Bolt on or set neck? Etc.

What kind of bands or guitar players do you want the RR24 to sound like?
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus

I'm a bit of an oddball player. i love iced earth as much as gary moore. i have a 7 string jeff loomis fitted with a black dog and mule set and i love it to death. i also love my C-bombed LTD H-1000. i'm not particularly looking to give a specific tone to a guitar, i'm more about giving each guitar its individual tone to work with as a creative tool.

of course the goal is to play heavy $%&#in' metal with tube amps and overdrives! seeing as i have my ''iced earth'' guitar with the c-bomb set, i'm looking to give this flying-v something you don't expect from a flying v, fat ass tone. if that makes sense :)

Miracle man? Has a great metal tone, but retains a really smooth voice for lead work.

I believe that an alnico Warpig would sound crushing in that set up.  Personally, with the guitar having ash wings, a maple neck, ebony board, and a floyed, The Warpig would give it good ass, and cut some balance out the bright a bit.  It will sound plenty tight in that tuning, especially if your guitar is naturally bright.

My friend has a A5 WP in a les paul custom, and its pretty fkn tight and crushing.  Not to dark at all.

I have one of these guitars, currently fitted with a painkiller which has a very spikey attack.

It's maple neck through, which normally suggests to me a ceramic pickup. The miracle man would be the obvious choice for fatness.

Reckon a warpig would work well also, or maybe a holy diver.

Miracle Man or C-Pig. Both would give thick and tight Metal tones with plenty of character.
BKP owned:

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Neck - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; Holydiver; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Allright then, so warpig it is. and then, ceramic or alnico? how does it change the pig's voicing?

Upon tim's advice i went for the blackhawk :)

also bit the bullet on a black dog 8 to replace my riff raff 8. i was fooled by the notion of mahogany being dark. the riff raff was a great pickup for the low F, but not so for the rest.
