BAH amp problems.. Advise on power amp + cab please?
« on: February 17, 2006, 03:05:53 PM »
Well right now I have a Laney AOR 30 pro tube combo... And I need to retube it. But this is Edinburgh, and once I get the tubes, I'd have to wait about 2 weeks without the amp to have it rebiased. Yipee. That is if I even CAN bring to the store. Or even get the tubes as I can only use paypal.

Or...

I could sell it locally, get about 250 pounds for it, and with the rest of the money (I should have 350 pounds maybe?) buy a 2X12 and a poweramp.
Now that's where I need you guys' help hehe... Where would I be able to get this for cheap? I have a preamp already, it's a POD 2.0. The poweramp wouldn't even need to be that powerful, hell even 10W would be enough for me.

Also, what's the main difference between a 1X12 and a 2X12..? For bedroom use am I just better off with the smallest one in size? Or do 2X12 just sound better?
Thanks people...

2x12 sound fuller, bigger, (doh) while not realy being any louder. with a 2x12 you're not running short if you need it for a small-er gig, where a 1x12 would just be lost, miced or not.

Thanks dude.

I just remembered, I may as well go for a LC15R. It also has an effects loop and external speaker socket and I could probably buy one with the money from the AOR, and since it'd be new, no need for rebiasing until aaages... Why do I always think complicated first  :D

Now I just need to sell that damn Laney AOR...

How can an amp be lost if it's miced?

it doesnt sound as powerful .. it does help a lot if it's miced and it realy depends on the venue you're playing, but i'd rather have a 2x12 than a 1x12 nevertheless.

also, you will get saved by the percieved volume & the added air a 2x12 pushes if it's only miced for the stage monitors. you're dead with a 1x12.

we're not speaking bl00z here boys.

2x12 is the smallest cab you should have if you play rock/metal.
