DiMarzio Dominion/Aftermath?
« on: August 31, 2012, 04:29:56 AM »
Hey All
I am currently running a DiMarzio Dominion bridge humbucker, and am thinking of upgrading to an Aftermath.  Is there a similarity between the two?  I am looking for a little less mid-focus, but keeping the tight bottom-end and crisp highs.  I do like the mids of the Dominion, but think the Aftermath is better suited to what I'm looking for (based on the description, sound clips etc.)
Thanks in advance for any input!

the aftermath is pure mid focus
one of the middiest pickups I ever played
maybe you want a ceramic nailbomb instead

Thanks for the heads up.  From what I can gather, the Aftermath seems to have more low-mids, which is what I'm after.  The Dominion has great cutting mids, but seems to lack a little depth in the low mid area.  I can boost it up with a little EQ, but am loving some of the AM clips floating around.  The Nailbomb or Painkiller have been suggested to me before too...so many options!

not really
mostly center mids, but fair amount of low and upper mids
not much low end

How about the Miracle Man? It's meant to have huge lo-mids.

Thanks again for the info Eric.  As for the MM, never even really considered that one, I'll have to read/listen up on it.
Thanks again guys!

Yea i'd say miracle man as well.. Veery low middy, as for the high mid power that the aftermath has. The mm is a brutal pickup, but really great for heavy riffing, sounds awesome

Wait, I don't get it. If you love the sound of the Aftermath why are you worried about mid focus? To quote several forum members, "if it sounds good, it is good."

Thanks again for the info. Regarding the Aftermath, yeah, I like the few clips I've heard of it, but don't know how much studio magic and EQ has been added to them.  I figured with so many options out there, I'd like to get some more insight from people who are actually using them.  I think I'll be happy with any of the three suggested... thanks again!
