Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer? (also building pedals?!)
« on: September 12, 2012, 10:11:51 PM »
Hi folks,

In chasing the Dire Straits style tone I am after a Orange Squeezer type compressor. I know that these are not made anymore but was wondering if anyone has any experience with this type of pedal? I have a Boss CS-3 at the moment and it is okay, but is very very noisy. Any other alternative ideas are also welcome!

I have looked around and there are a few clones of it out there (although none for sale in the UK). There are lots of schematics for it online, and it seems it is considered a "beginner" project to build one, which I am thinking about doing, although have no experience of electronics so I am not sure if even a "beginner" project is beyond me.

Any input appreciated!

Thanks,

Bob

If you'd been a month or so earlier you could have had mine for peanuts. Unfortunately I've recycled it now and the box and hardware has been reused. I got shot as it's very in your face, probably the most recognisable sounding compressor out there.

The MoRC (modified Ross Compressor) is a lot more versatile and the one I'd recommend if you fancy having a go at DIY. You can get a board from Das Musikding (Der Compressor) for that.

I use and Analogman Juicer for those type sounds, they come up on ebay every so often.

If you want to do a  DIY build you can obtain a PCB and build one yourself for the Orange Squeeze from Tone pad.
$11 .00 paid for via Paypal.

Get a multi-turn trimmer to set it up, they're an absolute bitch to get right with a single turn one.
