Cab Extension n00b question...

I am a n00b with heads and cabs as I've only ever had combos.  I am looking at getting an EVH 5150 III 50 watt head and it's matching 212 cab.  I currently have a Peavey Vypyr tube 60 which has a cab extension.  In the manual it says that the cab extensions for the Vypyr 60 and 120 are rated for 16 ohms meaning that I should be able to run the EVH 212 which is 16 ohms.

I feel I am correct but I really want to make sure as I don't want to $%&# anything up.

I also found a Marshall 1960A which is cheap for us Aussies as a music chain is closing down and getting rid of stock.  412 would be nice but is it too big for a bedroom player or is the 212 a better choice?

I'd thought I'd ask all this here as I know most of the people here have far more knowledge than me  :)

Yes, you can run the 16ohm cab with your current amp if the manual says so  :)

4x12s can sound good, but are a pain in the arse to move around, and sell if you need to.  A 2x12 is enough for most people these days, especially the more modern designs of 2x12s which can sound as chunky as a 4x12.

but seriously, I think twinfan hit the nail on the head.

other thing is the 4x12 has g12t75s, while the evh cab has (i think- one part of the EVH website says "heritage", another says "anniversary" :?) heritage celestion g12h30s. i don't hate the 75s, but at the same time i'd say the heritage g12h30s are nice (and they're certainly worth a lot more).

I have been sizing up the room and a 412 will be too big.  Would be nice as I guess we all dream about it.  My vypyr does emulate a 212 cab on the JSX modelling and that sounds very nice in the room where it is.  I figure if a modelling amp is chunking like that then a proper 212 cab should be sweet.  I do like bottom end but have to be practical at the same time.

hmmm terrible typo there. I meant to say "nicer" (for the heritage g12h30s, assuming that's what that cab is loaded with).
