Good deal or just G.A.S.ing? Jackson Fusion Pro
« on: November 09, 2012, 12:20:43 PM »
Cheers guys,

so yesterday I stumbled across a used 90s Jackson Professional Fusion H-H in my local music store, and I'm somewhat tempted to snag it. The price is 450€ and the guitar surely needs some TLC, but it's pretty much in mint condition. I don't know the exact year but it's definitely a 91-95 one Made in Japan and there's something about old and used guitars I like, call it mojo or soul, they have something.

The baby looks like this:

Specs are a Mahogany Body (rare on Jacksons), Maple Neck with a Rosewood Fretboard and a shorter 24.75 Scale (hence the name Fusion, its a mash-up between a Jackson and a Gibson). I'm pretty sure a Painkiller would sound amazing in it.

So what do you say? Steal for such a price or should I keep my hands off?

Cheers

Not really a steal, but not breaking the bank either. It depends how this guitar sounds (how is the acoustic vibe of it?) and how the neck feels.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I'm afraid I don't know anything about Jacksons!

I suppose if I was trying to get a feel for the value I'd look on eBay and see what similar guitars sell for.

Of course from another point of view it's "worth" whatever you're prepared to pay for it.  But personally I do try to take account of resale value, because I know there's a high chance I will end up selling most guitars I buy.

So I found out it's a 93 model and I actually put a deposit on it. The neck is amazingly fast and seems to be thinner than the neck on my bassists 2010 DK2M, the shorter scale suits my hands better and it will be the first guitar I own with a Mahogany body. I might regret it later on but hey, not everyone owns a 20 year old Jackson with such rather unusual specs and it's not such a big amount of money that I'd be crying later on. When it comes to guitars, I'm like a woman collecting shoes :P

Tell me about it!  :|

Mind you, shoes would be a lot cheaper and take up less space.

True, imagine if you had to assemble them!

I'd have a big pile under my bed and be walking around barefoot like a hobbit.  :?

Can somebody explain to me what this talk about Philly and guitarparts under his bed is all about? I noticed it several times here on the forum, Philly are you really such a Warmoth collector that you have guitars unassembled under your bed? My fingertips would tremble too much from the excitement of having the possibility to put a guitar together just right now :P

edit: expect a NGD thread from me on monday :D

 :D

and in one of those 'aisles' you could find Philly crawling around scratching his head and muttering something along the lines of "I'm sure I put it here somewhere"

In a word, Yes.

It's all true, except they're not literally under my bed.  The bed is metaphorical.

(I do have a real bed as well, of course....)
