Ash body, maple neck w/ a rosewood board - I would go for something smooth that rounds out the highs and has good midrange so I would stay away from the Nailbomb, Rebel Yell and Cold Sweat. I would look at the Abraxas, Crawler, Holydiver and Black Dog (no experience with the latter yet).

Yeah I think you are right. Ben French suggested Black Dogs, and when I mentioned Crawlers he said that they would be a solid choice. I might be leaning towards those and the Abraxas over the VHII's.

Black Dog would be a bit weaker in coilsplitmode, according to the specs. I don't have a BD. I think you have a safe bet and good splits with the Crawler, Abraxas and Holy Diver. The Crawler in my swampashstrat has never let me down and I play in a top-100-coverband, so need quite some different sounds.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

The Crawler is very dependent on the guitar it's in - in my dark swamp ash guitar it was a bit too dark whereas it sounds great now in a guitar with mahogany body, maple top and mahogany neck w/ rosewood board. In a bright guitar it is really at home whereas the Abraxas sounds great in bright and not so bright guitars.

Interesting. I think I'm probably going to go with Crawlers.
