man down on tour

Nice show on Zurich and then an early morning flight to Gdansk via Berlin.

Due to snow, the Zurich flight was delayed an hour which made the transfer in Berlin a rush.

Arriving in Gdansk - no guitar on the luggage belt. I assume it's in Berlin airport.

I'm actually rather worried. The guitar was my Yamaha SGV and I've been playing it live often and have grown fond of it. Although rare, it's not particularly valuable. But I really like the look and feel. I'd tweaked the pickups to fit my music.

I have some more fancy guitars that I just use for studio and songwriting work. My live guitars are all pimped cheaper axes with bright bright neck pickups.

Meh.. :( just letting off steam I guess, but I like alot this guitar.

Obviously I've been in touch with the airline a number of times, but it's not turned up yet.

I've had luggage lost (actually from Frankfurt to Heathrow... it managed to get from Kazakhstan to Frankfurt ok!), but it did turn up a couple of days later, so keep up hope still :)

that's the nightmare scenario, only beaten by seeing pieces of your case and guitar coming out onto the conveyor!

i hope it turns up safely.  my only experience with lost luggage was when it wasn't put on my flight from Melbourne to Sydney, but in that instance they got it on the next flight and i had it inside a couple of hours. 

fingers crossed yours gets sorted out soon.

Aw that sucks. Another reason to keep the valuable stuff at home and take your beaters on tour, but then again it hurts, no matter what instrument gets lost. Fingers crossed that it'll turn up.  :?

Well put. Initially, the Yamaha was a beater, but then I played on lots of shows and now I really like it of course.

Hi Gareth, Hope it turns up, I know you were looking for one of them for a bit.  I've had luggage lost before, but it usually turns up.  I did once have a case broken, which is why I now try to use soft cases and carry the guitar with me, where I can.  I am bringing the John Birch Flying V over with me this week, but it is a direct flight, not a change over.  The V needs work after floating in the flood at home!

Its the first time in 11 or 12 years of moderately frequent international touring this has happened. I guess I should count myself lucky. But if I could have chosen a guitar to be lost it wouldn't have been this one. I have just escalated this further with the airline (Air Berlin).

So far I always thought Air Berlin was a decent airline, I've used them a few times. So I have my fingers crossed they find it.

Phil: good luck with the JB V repairs, hopefully its not too bad.

Keeping my fingers rossed for you. I always think that the moment when you put your guitar/camera gear/other precious object onto the conveyor at check in and see it disappear around the corner must be what it feels like to see you child go off to school by themselves for the first time.

progress: the guitar has been located in Berlin Tagel along with 500 other pieces of missing luggage (!). Due to snow alot has been stuck there apparently.

Eventually it will make its way back to me. Bizarrely it has to go to Gdansk first, and then a meandering route to Heathrow.

Things look alot more positive, but until I have the guitar back theres still alot to worry about of course.
