effect of changing polepieces on Warpig?
« on: February 24, 2006, 10:01:07 PM »
I've had a WP in the bridge of my LP std for around a week now but I'm not sold on the way in 'looks' in this guitar.  So, I'm thinking of two things...

(1) changing the polepieces to either rounded allen bolts or normal screws
(2) removing the cover

I'm thinking that removing the cover will give a slight treble increase but what effect will changing the polepieces to normal types have?

not sure about the technical differences involved but aesthetically allen bolt pole-pieces look awesome even if they are just a subtle change. ive got them on my p-90.

i dont think they make a huge difference (if any) in terms of sound though.... i may be wrong...

If you remove the cover you will get a slight treble increase, the same if you use normal screws. Rounded poles wont make too much of a tonal differance.
If you want any work done on the pig its best to send it to us as it is made from very fragile wire, also you will void the warranty if you do it yourself!

anything that changes the tonal response is not what I'm after (argh!!!).  I'll have a think on this one - maybe an aged nickel covers or even black covers would be good for this guitar.

If there was a WP option where it looked the same as a standard guitar pickup and sounded just as good as the normal WP I'd go for it in a big way.

:) Hi HTH, I have these Pigs in sleek mirror chrome. There are plenty of choices with the covers that you can get. I think.

Mmmm, that SG looks really tasty  :D

I think aged nickel covers will be the order of the day when I order a neck p/up to match up.

I see you have normal screw polepieces in your WP - I take it the tone is still monsterous (?)

Indeed HTH. Doble rows of pole screws. People are evenly split on the sound either they love them or they think they are too damn hot for their souls, not that they do not like them but that they are too damn hot  . Everything points one way. Excellent quality, great tone, and a very particular sund. Just like all BKPs. :)

That SG looks totally badass!

I'd love to hear it in action.
