Did it come in a Hamer hard case?
It did indeed. The case has taken a bit of a beating over its life but it's still functional. Why do you ask?

I have a Hamer case that may well be going spare - v good condition

Ah, I see! You should try and find someone with one of the early/mid nineties LP Specials like I had - that only came with a gig bag, the cheapskates.

I'm late arriving to this thread (still away for Christmas), but nice catch!

I wish mine had been TV Yellow, I could only get Cherry at the time.....

I might be interested in that Hamer case if it fits a doublecut Special, Jonathan.

The case which is in very good condition belongs to a Hamer USA Sunburst Custom that I have whose neck was broken .

I am rebuilding a neck for it but it won't say Hamer on the headstock, so I am torn between keeping the case or selling it on and getting an unbranded TKL case for it.

I might get in touch next week when I'm back home - I bought an '81 Hamer Special a few months ago which came with only a gigbag (which sadly has the word "electric" written on it.... in pink glitter  :| )

Nice guitar Andrew.  I have an early Hamer Sunburst which I really don't play enough!  Mine has a very early Abraxas set on it (though I still have the original DiMarzio's if ever I sell it!).

Long story short, I did get Jonathan to put a "Blue Note" and a "Nantucket" in and this the result. I love 'em.

Nice thread resurrection!

We were talking about these Hamers elsewhere weren't we?  I still think this is a stunning guitar, and will definitely be keeping my eye out for one!

bit slow on the uptake here, but thats really nice!!

I wouldn't hold your breath. It's my only P90 guitar and I'm well out of the honeymoon stage and I still like it. :)

I love an uncluttered guitar with P90s. They seem to exude an air of quiet menace - f**k with me and I'll kick your head in kind of thing.

Ever since getting my Hamer, I've had in my mind a comment that David Grissom made about tuner buttons, to the effect that he once took the metal buttons off his guitar and weighed them in his hand and felt it seemed like a lot of unnecessary heft to put on the headstock of a guitar. That made sense to me.

I thought I'd replace the big metal buttons on the Hamer's Schaller M6s with something lighter. I didn't like any of the official Schaller buttons so I took a punt on some real bone buttons on eBay. They claimed to be M6 fit but unfortunately they had soft plastic bushings and really didn't work at all: the tuning stability was awful.

I do have a PRS DGT and the faux bone tuner buttons on that have metal bushings so I sought out a set of PRS buttons, having tested that they would fit on the M6 tuner. I finally tracked some down last week and they turned up yesterday. I fitted them last night and there is a noticeable difference in how the guitar balances on the strap. I like to slide the guitar strap on my shoulder depending on how I play so the balance of the guitar is important to me and is also why I don't like straps with a grippy side as some do.

In a fit of extreme sadness I weighed the old metal buttons. They were 3ozs in total which, when put at the end of a nice, long mahogany lever, actually is a reasonable amount of weight. I also like the look of the new tuners too, which doesn't hurt.

[corksniffing]Of course the biggest difference between the buttons is in the tone. The new buttons open up a whole range of frequencies to delight the ear. The metal buttons seem so lifeless and muddy in comparison*[/corksniffing]

*This is a lie. I can't hear any difference at all.
