right pickup for the sound
« on: December 28, 2012, 06:07:24 PM »
Okay been looking for the right pickups for a long while and looking for a warm yet dark sound for my Gibson SG 61 reissue. I tend to play hard rock and metal and been also looking at dimarzio crunch lab (bridge), and paf pro (neck). However stumbling across BKP I found some other pickups but not sure which ones work best for the sound I want :( I liked the rebel yells but still unsure :P Any suggestions or experiences?

The RY is quite bright so maybe not what you're looking for. The ABomb bridge works fine for me (in a rather dark 80 SG standard) but some may find it a bit too 90s sounding.
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

I will def look into the Abombs again, but i'm trying to avoid a searing sound. I'm sorta of in a limbo between hard rock and heavy metal and it's hard to acheive both sounds ^^ I just don't want a metal sound that has no character to it (otherwise I would get some emg's :p). I might get a blackstar (ht5 or studio 20) if that helps as well. And bands whose guitar tone I like disturbed, seether, icon for hire, rev theory, black stone cherry, but if I can get some killswitch enagage, as i lay dying, agonist, in flames tones all the better :D i'm picky about sound :p
