About making choices...

To explain the story in short:

I'll be keeping the Holydiver and the Slowhands in my Strat for now and have decided to use it as my main rock axe, tuned to E-Standard. My Jackson Fusion is going to be my Death Metal Axe for my current project I have with a mate, and I decided to get Warpigs with a ceramic bridge for it, the tuning is E-Flat. That leaves me with a decision I have to make for my Ibanez Beater...

Basswood Body, Maple Neck and Fretboard, nothing fancy. I want to use it for low tuned stuff, particularly Bands like Veil of Maya, Red Seas Fire, Decapitated, all the stuff I don't play with my ordinary tuned axes. I've been thinking about the Aftermath, especially as it should be a good pickup for the "Djent" tone as well as Death Metal, however I'm not entirely sure.

Your ideas, opinions? Let em come :)

If you don't mind a very "djenty" sound, I don't play that type of music but I dial in a shiteload of mids, the aftermath will work.  If not, the ceramic nailbomb will do the styles you mentioned perfectly and suit the guitar better voicing-wise.

Hmm, everyone seems to be recommending the Nailbomb for the RG... however I like my mids and wouldn't the C-Bomb sound too scooped and get lost in a live mix? Just curious...

I found the NB was too round in the lows in my basswood RG

The aftermath was amazing as was the miracle man (my favourite basswood pickup) but i feel the AM would suit you more.

maybe a little in the low mids, but it has a fair amount of bass and upper mids
its bright and sharp voicing may give that impression but it's way far from a real scooped pup like a bill lawrence or something
the upper mids are quite crunchy and it has more low end than the aftermath

the only bkp I had that sounded truly scooped was the neck nailbomb

that may be relative
I usually relate it to mid 90's alternative/crossover stuff like helmet, silverchair and biohazard, but it works for heavier modern stuff like lamb of god, later dream theater, arch enemy...
