Not everyone likes change...
« on: January 06, 2013, 04:41:27 PM »
Hi All,

We've upgraded the forum to the latest version to improve speed, security and functionality. With this change we have decided to make the forum template a bit slicker, with the colour scheme a bit closer to the new site - but as with most things in life, there will be bits people like, love and of course hate.

We are interested in any feedback to improve things.  (For example, as I type this, I think I need to whiten the text in the compose box!)

Please keep this thread for constructive feedback only. There is already another thread created by Kiichi for opinions. :-)

Hi Ol, we will of course get used to it soon enough....

But is it still possible to easily do all those things like bold, italics, change font size/colour etc?

And I know it's childish, but what about smileys?  I can't find 'em....
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds

Hi Phil,

Of course - instead of pressing "Quote" in someone's post, you can click Reply at the bottom of the page.
I'm still looking for a way of moving between the "Quick Reply" box and the fully functional one. I might have to override the Quote button to go to full reply.

Hah, somehow I was faster with on this I guess xD

Anway, I see smilies  :D so no problem there.

What I do notice is that every second post seems to be written in grey instead of white, which on the grey background I find to be suboptimal, as it makes it harder to read. That is the only real immediate complain that I have.

And I would like further highlighting for threads and forums with new replies, more in the style of the old forum, not just a little "new" sign next to them. I really found the old bold move to be quite nice.

Sides that I will just have to see.

The "sig" section seems a bit larger than neccesary.
It wasn't a mistake, it was chromaticism, I swear.

Whether I use "Quote" or "Reply" I'm still not seeing smileys or ways to fiddle with the text.

Displaying my ignorance here, but could it be my browser or version of Windows? (puzzled)   [See, I don't know how to do a puzzled smiley....]

I'm not exactly crazy about the scrolling text box while typing, I had some trouble figuring out that I had to press enter to get back to the post button.

It's good to keep things fresh! Maybe the panel on the left with the nick/photo etc is a bit large. Anyway, I'm sure we'll get used to the new look quickly enough.

Edit: just a thought, if the nick/photo panel was less large, it would automatically reduce the space given to sigs

Changed.

I've made the link text a bit lighter and put the NEW image aligned to the right, as the old forum. I've also emboldened new posts.
I've lightened the 'new posts' button (the one with the blue light in it) to make it more obvious) which you see on the main forum index.

I will look at reducing it.

I welcome further suggestions.

Freshing things up is good! Further I agree with what Kiichi says about highlighting.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Ahh thanks for the quick changes, they did a lot for me. Reading on those second posts is much easier on the eyes now and I have more of an overview again being able to quickly spot threads with new answers.
Good work!

A lot of things seem to have quite a lot of padding around them-- Much like the Nick area, the bits like the menu at the top, and the Quick Reply bar seem a little large.

Another thing I noticed is that quotes in quotes need work. It is just a grey in grey where you can hardly see where one quote ends, which can be seen quite well with one of PhillyQs replies in this thread.
I also would like to have all the quote info in there again, not just the info one the last one, so you can also see by whom and from when the originally quoted part is.

I personally don't like to fix what ain't broke. The old site was clearer. This is the fashion everywhere though (to update for no reason)
No offence to those who put in the work for the new 'look'

There's a lot to like in the new layout. One request I'd have is to make more differentiation in the text of threads on the main pages to see which ones have new content or not. It seemed a bit clearer on the old forum. Thanks.
