Amp resizing
« on: January 11, 2013, 11:24:15 AM »
I am thinking of changing my amp as my needs have altered and so has the size of my car boot! Currently I am humping around a Blackstar 60 Soloist but my new car has a very narrow boot and the amp barely fits (I had a proper 'mare in the car showroom convincing the suits to let me wedge the amp into the boot) Anyway, I think that it would be a good idea to get a smaller amp as I never get to crank up the 60w to beyond room levels. I was considering an Egnater Rebel 20 or 30 head with cab. I know that there is built in power-scaling but I wonder if the sound is exactly what I am after - I would like something that is capable of sounding a little more vintage than the Blackstar.

Also, I would need to sell the Blackstar soloist and I dont particularly want to use ebay. Can anyone advise how to use the 'Seconds out' section?

The Egnaters have more vintage vibe then the Blackstar. You could also have a look at the powerscaled Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister-serie and the smaller Oranges.

I tried an Egnater Tweaker 15w and some of their modular stuff.

I've liked everything from them I've sampled so far. As telerocker says, it definitely does sound more vintage than then BlackStar clips I've heard. But Egnater stuff is quite detailed and "hifi" so there is inevitably a modern twist to it.

i think you maybe need 50 posts to use seconds out?

what type of tones do you need? what's your budget?

Agreed. The Tubemeisters also sound a bit 'hifi', especially on the cleanchannel.

Hughes and Kettner are losing their UK distributor right now, so if you hang on a bit and shop around you may be able to pick up a bargain...

I tried the Rebel30 (head+cab) last year and I agree with gwEm : mostly vintage voiced yet a with something hifi which you may - or not - like. Pretty good amp, very responsive and quite versatile, perhaps a bit too polite (=> "hifi") for my tastes but I would certainly not complain if I had one <g>.
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)
