Forgive my customary ignorance where the world of amps is concerned, but anyone got any thoughts on which of these Marshalls work well with particular guitars or pickups?  Presumably the older-school models are the best bet if you're into P-90s?

My JMP1 is the dog's bollocks with my PRS SE One. I actually like it a bit better than with my RY's. Not saying it sounds bad or anything with the 'buckers, but I love my P90's through it.

As far as guitars, I know the JTM is pretty picky, but that's about it. Anything sounds good with a good LP of course, but I'd kinda almost pigeon-hole the guitars you'd imagine pairing with these amps as being correct. A nice Strat with the JTM, Les Paul with the JMP, a good V with the JCM, and so forth.

Thanks guys, it looks like I'm leaning ever closer to the JMP1....

I wonder how well these are selling, by the way?  To me, it seems an absolutely brilliant idea to tempt people with "mini" versions of five different Marshall amps, not only are they individually appealing and affordable (ignoring the value-for-money question for a moment) but they instantly flick on the "collector switch" (for anyone unfortunate enough to have been born with that switch.... :?)

Or maybe I'm just weird, perhaps most people still favour the 100w head, 4x12 and attenuator in the corner of the bedroom approach.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

My JTM doesn't like Strats at all. I've run three through it so far, and there's a horrible treble clipping. The CP60 with Irish Tours sounds acceptable with volume on full and tone dialed back, but it's not the kickass blues tone I'd hoped for.

I don't have the collector switch TM  but I do really like the idea of a tiny JMP or JTM to go with my more Fenderish Cornell Romany. They are so cute...

Really interested in one of these but the high price tag puts me off a bit.. if it were in the £200-300 range I would maybe consider one.

Hmm, that surprises me. I actually played a Strat in the shop when I tried it out, I believe it was just a regular American Standard with the stock pickups. I liked it more than any other guitar I tried with it.

I always liked the Cornell Romany - I used to have a Cornell Stinger (precursor to the Romany) and it was a treat and steered me towards single ended amps in a big way.

Congrats! Glad you like it, but it's a shame you're getting rid of your MV. Will you be replacing all that sold gear with anything new?

Well, none of its gone yet, but I don't think I'll get replacements in immediately. In a way, the JCM1 is the replacement!

I'd say JTM or JMP for you Philly  ;)

Well, I tried my SG junior through the JCM1 and it does sound good. But I would say also JMP for Philly :)

Even for live use?

Definitely, I get good service from my SansAmp gear live. I don't like carrying all the heavy gear, and it's not always practical with the show I play. I admit it would be much cooler and nicer to play with a real amp.

Ah, didn't realize you were running SansAmp gear. It definitely is much more practical, now you must be close to having as little setup as those silly singers do!

Old thread, I know, but I finally ordered a mini-Marshall.  Decided on the....... JTM1.

I hope I'll like it.  :)
