Yeah, I think they're usually black.

This is a zebra (or maybe reverse zebra?) set I bought from Twinfan.  We got chrome covers fitted because I was going to put them in a PRS Mira (long since sold), but I don't think covered pickups would suit the BC Rich Mockingbird.  If, indeed, I do decide to fit them in the Mockingbird.

I had some covers removed and it sucked to get it desoldered but once the cover was off, there wasn't a lot of wax at all and the bobbins were black, so was the rest. Only difference is you could see the hookup wire. I am sure if you let BKP do it for you, they will turn out great and will still be covered under warranty if I understand it correctly.
