So I bought a DIY amp kit... Design it for me? PIMP MY AMP!

http://www.madamp.de/g2.htm

It's simple but I actually have great projects for it. I'll probably upgrade it with a graphic EQ that I'd get from a pedal if I have room for it.
But mostly I was thinking about building a cabinet for it with a little 8'' speaker and make it a little DIY champ. When I get to know more about amps I'll probably try to make it voice more like a Twin Reverb, maybe add a gain stage. I'll keep it simple, BUT make it more complicated :D that's how us French people think (and NO I won't give up :laugh2: )

However... If anyone's good with photobucket (or paint? ;) ), I wouldn't mind some design help, and good suggestions for a 8''. The speaker needs to be decent, not amazing. Same for the cab, should I just use Pine Plywood?

Thanks for ANY suggestions, no matter how silly ;)

Seems like a nice little ampie to build :D

I'd consider going for a bigger speaker and cab than an ordinary Champ if you like your tone a bit deeper and more general usable. The 8Ohm impedance is well suited to a single 10". It would also give the impression of more clean headroom. Depending on if you're more for a britisch or american sound you could either go for a Celestion (Vintage10) or a Jensen C10/P10R alnico or maybe a Weber or similar. For cabinet size I'd steal the dimensions of something like a Fender Princeton or a VOX AC10 or whatever rocks your boat. Solid Pine would be very good, I suggest keeping it thin for a light cab with lots of resonance. It also finishes well. There's off course lots of stuff available to build cabs, maybe check out the tube amp doctor: http://www.tubeampdoctor.com/

Does it run on two ECC83's? If so there's a lot to fiddle about with. With this amp I'd go for a low-output preamp valve (like a NOS 5751) with a hotter output valve (maybe the Mullard reissue from GT?) so you'd have some headroom before it crunches up.

The website didn't say on which tubes I'm affraid... :(

Nederlands! Ik won in Amstelveen. Well when I'm not in Edinburgh haha. And yep about the headroom, the speaker and tubes seem like a great idea. Thanks!
From the pics, the tubes seem to be 12AX7s. No powertubes... Weird.
How hard would it be to add a powertube to it?

You'd basically be building another amp, I'd stick with the format and build the amp as suggested first because you'd need other transformers, different operating voltage etc. 2W before distortion will be surprisingly loud with an efficient speaker and a nice bouncing cab  8)

I assume this amp uses a ECC83/12AX7 or something similar as a poweramp tube, these have two triodes that would be able to form a small poweramp in that power range.

Btw loads of TAD stuff is now imported in Holland, also by smaller webbased companies that advertise on "Marktplaats". Moet je maar es naar kijken :D

Ja ik weet Marktplaats. Maar mij Nederlands is helle slecht, ik kan niet het spreken! I should have taken lessons.
I'm located in Scotland for now actually. And yeah I'll build the amp first as supposed to.

Oh I'd need another transformer if I want to add a poweramp circuit..? Ok then.... Maybe when I get way better haha... Dank u wel vriend!

You'll never learn proper Dutch in Amsterdam. English, Arabic and Papiamento are the most common languages in Amsterdam.

Succes met het bouwen van je versterker.

Maybe it's just semantics but... You DO actually have a power amp in your G2 (otherwise it'd be dead quiet and unable to drive a decent speaker :P) but it's a tiny one, driven by a valve that would usually be used as a pre-amp stage.

ps: Yeah, learning 2 speak dutch in A'dam is near impossible. Although the same goes for Zwolle actually

Have you ever been in a conversation when you had no idea what everyone else was talking about?

No power tubes would've steered me away.
