From what I understand from other forums, the Guitar Center isn't that great. I've heard their shops are staffed by arrogant young players and steer you towards the latest gimmick rather than your actual needs (hmm sounds like most shops in the UK he he).

I suspect that UK English will continue to be more like US English - I've noticed many people in the UK spelling Analogue and Analog.

TO took me into a Guitar Centre while I was in New York last June.

It reminded me of a big supermarket (ASDA etc) but 1 that sold guitars instead of milk and eggs etc :)

I have heard alot of rumours about the staff being a$$holes, but I didn't experience this myself  :)  :o
Selling lots of gear, enquire within!......

There was a recent survey done, asking children what they should do in an emergency, a worryingly high amount said you had to dial "911"...

You know, in my opinion Guitar Center is NOT like ASDA. It's more like ARGOS LOL.
You go in (HAVE to know about what you want to start as the staff sure as heck don't) and then tell them they are too expensive and they will knock it down in price (alot at times) then take it home and 30 to 50 days later take it back saying you don't want it and either get ya money back or exchange it for your next "toy".
The staff basically only get commission. So that explains some of the pushiness. But by the same token they are then Easy Prey (for say a stray $20 in their pocket in the parking lot) for a HUGE discount. No, they are NOT the best educated on the product usually but we all know that. My real beef with the store is that I would NOT buy a "decent" guitar from them as they are all out on display and let anyone play them. I mean play as in "play around" as a 5yo with a snotty nose and covered in mud can hold/mess around with a Les Paul if he/she can reach it. That being said, some of the REAL high $$$$ guitars/basses are out of reach to all but a giraffe, but not most.
It's cheap and VERY convenient as they stock ALOT. Not boutique pedals but guitars all the way up to PRS and Taylor T5's.
UK really could do with a store like this but then it's supply/demand. You can fit UK into Texas twice so guess I know why UK does not have a chain like it.
Just wanted to say AM gonna miss some things here :)
Still actually looking forward to being back in Ole Blighty though.
And now dreaming of a USA Made Guitar Import/Sale business LOL. (maybe one day).

But does Sound Control have many actual stores? or mainly online?

Shop, lol. Well lets take one thing at a time shall we.
I need to make money asap when come back (getting re-certified as an electrician will be first) but NOT going back Offshore

Then maybe we can see when things settle down.

Thing is I am NOT a "hard" business man. I LOVE finding bargains and rarities BUT pricing them to make a profit/living would take abit of doing for me. Actually, probably parting with the guitars may be a problem too LOL

Needs, ALOT of looking into. Import duty , VAT, overheads etc. Nice idea but VERY complicated.

Sound Control have outlets in most major cities in the UK as well as their online business. They took over the Academy of Sound a while back who also had a number of outlets all over the place.
