NAD: A little cutie...
« on: March 13, 2013, 07:58:27 PM »
I got a mailshot from Sounds Great at the weekend, which included a bunch of Marshalls they were selling at reduced prices.  They had/have several of the limited edition 1 watters with a few quid off but then I spied the Class 5 at £269.  I've been looking out for something for my flat and so I jumped on it.  I'm not sure how many they had for sale, they may even have just had the one, as mine is ex-demo.  It's the latest spec (with low power switch) and has a full warranty so job's a good 'un  :)

The low power mode is 0.5w, unlike the 0.1w of the anniversary models, so it's actually a touch loud for my needs.  I'm going to give it a go with my Marshall Drive Master pedal in front which should work great.  Gary Moore used to get a great tone out of a Guv'nor into a Bluesbreaker combo so I should be able to get something similar for non-neighbour annoying practice.

But the main thing is it looks cool, right?  ;)

Cheers guys - it's a nice sounding amp.  All valve, made in England and a decent/cab speaker.  Not as nice as my '65s obviously, but for such a great price I'm not complaining.

The mini-Bluesbreaker vibe is cool too...

they are nice little amps, i've played through a couple.  and much louder than most people expect!  it's a pity Marshall have discontinued them.  you got it for a nice price, there are overdrive pedals that cost more than that :)

It is a very handsome little amp and for the money, an absolute steal.

It's a pity Marshall have discontinued them

They're not discontinued as far as I'm aware - it seems to be an internet myth!

Yes but Gary Moore ran his Bluesbreaker at full volume

I know that, I'll just put more gain on the pedal  ;)

The ME is looking as good as ever.

Yep, it's proper worn in and feels like a comfy pair of shoes to me to play.  Sounds alright too  ;)

that looks badass :D

Cool that you got the one with the low power switch, I never understood why they originally didn't have that. I think the newer one cured the rattles that the older ones had, too? Don't quote me on that, though, I've never tried either. Nice score in other words, you got a good price on the more sought-after version. :D

This newer one has a more substantial cabinet and a thicker chassis to prevent rattle.  Used MkIs sell for over £200 on eBay, so to get a fully (3 year) warranted MkII for £269 was a steal I couldn't pass up.
